Colors also changed from pink for boys and blue for girls to pink for girls and blue for boys, manufacturers made “color-coded” clothing for kids younger and younger and parents had to “keep up with the Cincinnati buildings pride shirt it is in the first place but Jones’s rather than use the hand-me-downs. The parents became poorer, the manufacturers (greedy capitalists that they are) became richer. Even further back, as noted in the link above, men’s and women’s clothing was not all that much different. No reason not to wear a gown, tunic, dress, etc. unless you were on horse back or working where the slight protection offered by the trouser legs was useful. Some judgmental people a long time ago decided what we wear. Over the years men and women have chipped away at it. Look at Katherine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich in their trousers and suits. And now it’s more common to see everyday women in pants rather than dresses and skirts. Fine with me. While Drag and T-women are much more visible, we men still catch hell when we wear women’s clothing. But I don’t let all that stuff bother me. My regular casual clothes are pretty much the same ones women wear — slacks with the zipper on “the distaff side”, tops with the same button arrangement or pullovers. Sometimes I wear women’s tie shoes, sometimes flats, and always women’s lingerie — my bra is selected on how obvious I want my breasts to be on any given day. I always wear some jewelry. When I need to be disguised as a man I still wear the same pants and shirt and a minimizer bra. I have shoes from SAS that “pass” as men’s. I really don’t pass that well, so I pick my spots in a dress or skirt during the day. It would be nice if we could wear women’s styles but I don’t see society changing that much in my lifetime.
