I always object to having to spend to much time shopping or money buying things that should be basic, and the best t-shirt is one that fits well, without weird pulls or gaps, is soft, has an appropriate length so that it can be tucked into pants or a skirt or be left out without looking sloppy or pulling across the hips, and is not expensive. It should also have a “finished” texture. I have in fact found my platonic ideal of a t-shirt. It’s this, from Uniqlo. Sadly, the site doesn’t list crew necks, and I hope that doesn’t bode ill for my fall wardrobe.
