But Crossfitters in general look more toned and muscular than bulky, and it certainly won’t happen by accident. No, not at all. The players have the Purdue Boilermakers football 1978 Peach Bowl Champions shirt besides I will buy this freedom to choose their own shoes as long as they match the required color scheme of the uniforms (in the NBA, anyway; I’m not sure color schemes apply elsewhere). This principle originated, like so many other team sports peculiarities, due to the greed and penny-pinching of owners. It started in organized professional baseball (predecessor of Major League Baseball) 150+ years ago. The team owners did not want to be responsible for the expense of providing shoes, so they put a paragraph into the Uniform Player Contract providing that the player was responsible for providing his own shoes. It never dawned on them that shoes could be a revenue opp… Most sponsored athletes from college and pro have certain brands that they will use. Like my freshmen and sophomore year, it was Brooks and the rest of the time was Acisics. After I graduated they somehow got Nike. That gear is provided free for the athletes and the school buys them at a special buy in a bulk deal. The pros will get them for free and also provide feedback about the product to the brand. But if the athlete doesn’t want to either college or pro they usually have a brand that works better for them. College isn’t as picky but if its pros then sometimes they have to all match with branding depending on the level of event like the Olympics.
