The International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization jointly established World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, or WEAAD, on June 15, 2006. The United Nations General Assembly declared that day as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in its 66/127 resolution.
